Terri Howes has more than 30 years of experience as a senior level executive in intercollegiate athletics with background in nearly every area of sport administration, including strategic planning, sport program administration, NCAA rules compliance, diversity & inclusion initiatives, human resources, student-athlete development, facilities operations, event management, marketing and community relations

Howes began her career at the University of Wyoming in 1988, ultimately serving as the Senior Woman Administrator and Associate Athletics Director with responsibilities in compliance, event coordination, marketing and sport oversight.  Her experience during her 10-year tenure at UW included service as the department’s liaison with the Office of Civil Rights during a Title IX review.  She was also a member of the leadership team involved in Conference restructure and realignment in 1996.

 

She joined the West Virginia University staff in 1998, providing oversight for 19 of the department’s 21 sport programs.  She continued in the roles of SWA and senior management team member, specializing in sport administration, student-athlete development, and governance. 

 

It was during her 22-year career at WVU that she became heavily involved in national committee service, including the NCAA Division I Nominating Committee, NACDA Learfield IMG Sports Director’s Cup Committee (eight years as chair), NCAA Division I Administrative Cabinet and NCAA Division I Championships and Competition Cabinet.  She was also an integral contributor on the department’s transition team responsible for coordinating the move from the Big East to the Big 12 Conference in 2012. 

She remains active in higher education as an adjunct faculty member at West Virginia University, serving as the lead instructor for sport management courses which have included Organizational Governance, History & Philosophy, Internship & Mentoring, and Introduction to Sport Management. In addition, she continues her active involvement in the NACDA, Women Leaders in College Sports and the National Recreation and Park Association.

She resides in Morgantown, WV and has two daughters, Blake and Jordan.
